French automaker Citroen is unvieling a new hybrid concept car called the “C-Cactus” at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year. The ecological hatchback vehicle comes equipped with a hybrid HDi drivetrain and will be sold at the same price as the entry level C4. Citroen can afford the lower pricing due to the minimalistic design and the use of eco friendly materials such as recycled or recylcable parts. The C-Cactus is extremely fuel efficient at about 60 mpg and has CO2 emission level of just 78g/km. Low emissions are the result of use of advances in emissions control such as the particulate filter. Fuel efficiency is improved in part due to the use of light weight recylable materials making the C-Cactus about 15% lighter than the C-4.
The hybrid drivetrain combined with a diesel engine provides 70 hp and an electrical motor provides 30 hp. In the city mode, the car can run on electric-only mode whereas at higher speeds the hybrid mode is used. The top speed of the C-Cactus is about 93 mph.
Pricing is expected to be around $25,000 which is the same as the C-4.
