Toyota is offering an option of solar powered cooling fans on its next generation Prius. Everyone knows how hot it gets inside a parked car during the summer. And the need to blast your AC at full power to cool the interior of the car when you get in. With this option, the solar powered fans run periodically and cool the interior even when the car is turned off. Seems like a very useful option, except that the price of around $1500 it will hardly justify the benefit for many buyers.
Regardless, Toyota needs to be commended for continuing to bring innovative green technologies. Other car makers such as Volvo are also following suit. And who knows? Maybe the technology will get cheaper and be available as a standard on all cars.
